What is a US Single Crochet (SC)?
US Single Crochet (SC) is also known as UK Double Crochet (DC)
(Handy hint: if you’re not sure whether a pattern is in US or UK terms, look for a reference to Single Crochet (SC). If the pattern mentions this stitch, it’s using US terms. SC doesn’t exist in UK terminology.
How to do a US Single Crochet: you should already have your foundation chain done, or have the row you’re working into ready.
- Insert hook into stitch or space as instructed.
- Step 1: Yarn Over (YO) and pull back through.
- Step 2: YO and pull through both loops on the hook.
- Step 3: You should have 1 loop left on the hook.



What is a US Double Crochet (DC)?
US Double Crochet (DC) is also known as UK Treble Crochet (TR or TRC)
How to do a US Double Crochet: you should already have your foundation chain done, or have the row you’re working into ready.
- Step 1: Yarn Over (YO), insert hook into stitch or space as instructed.
- Step 2: YO and pull back through.
- Step 3: YO and pull through 2 loops on the hook.
- Step 4: YO and pull through 2 loops on the hook.
- Step 5: You should have 1 loop left on the hook.



What is a US Half Double Crochet (HDC)?
US Half Double Crochet (HDC) is also known as UK Half Treble Crochet (HTR/HTRC)
How to do a US Half Double Crochet: you should already have your foundation chain done, or have the row you’re working into ready.
- Step 1: Yarn Over (YO), insert into stitch or space as instructed.
- Step 2: YO and pull back through.
- Step 3: YO and pull through all 3 loops on the hook.
- Step 4: You should have 1 loop left on the hook.



What is a US Treble Crochet (TR/TRC)?
US Treble Crochet (TR/TRC) is also known as UK Double Treble Crochet (DTR/DTRC)
How to do a US Treble Crochet: you should already have your foundation chain done, or have the row you’re working into ready.
- Step 1: Yarn Over (YO) TWICE, insert into space or stitch as instructed.
- Step 2: YO and pull back through.
- Step 3: Step 4: YO and pull through 2 loops on the hook.
- Step 5: YO and pull through 2 loops on the hook.
- Step 6: YO and pull through 2 loops on the hook.
- Step 7: You should have 1 loop left on the hook.





What is a Slip Stitch?
How to do a Slip Stitch in crochet: you should already have your foundation chain done, or have the row you’re working into ready.
- Step 1: Insert into space or stitch as instructed.
- Step 2: Yarn Over (YO) and pull back through.
- Step 3: Pull the new loop you’ve just made through the loop that was originally on the hook.
- Step 4: You should have 1 loop left on the hook.
