How to Do a Left Handed Chain Stitch

How to do a left handed chain stitch (CH)

Make a slip knot in any way you prefer and insert your hook into it.

  • Step 1: Yarn Over (YO) your hook.
  • Step 2: Pull the hook through the original slip stitch loop.
  • Step 3: Repeat until you have the required number of chains.

In the photos below, you can see how this process works when you repeat the steps to make a chain. If you want a closer look at any of the steps just click the photo to enlarge it.

How to count chains

Every chain you make creates a little ‘V’ like you can see the arrow pointing to in the photo to the left. To easily work out how many chains you have, simply count the Vs you can see. Remember, you don’t count the loop left on your hook.
